Roma signed Luca Vitali

One of Italy's most promising young point guards is switching Euroleague teams with the announcement Wednesday that Virtus Roma has signed Luca Vitali to a four-year contract. Vitali (201, 23) spent last season with Armani Jeans Milano, scoring 10.9 points and dishing 2.4 assists per game. His 44.4% three-point shooting (28 for 63) would have ranked him among the Euroleague's best five shooters from downtown if he had not missed the season's first three games with an injury.

Despite his young age, Roma becomes the fourth different Italian team with whom Vitali has played a Euroleague game. Vitali made his Euroleague debut at 16 years old with Virtus Bologna in March of 2003, and scored his first points in the competition the following season for Montepaschi Siena. "I am very happy to be part of a project as ambitious as that of Rome, a team made up of many Italians," Vitali said. "This is a courageous project, because not everyone is betting on many Italian players, and this is the thing that most impressed me and led me to choose Rome."
